Validation of Asar Wave Mode Level 2 Product
نویسندگان
چکیده
A first geophysical validation of the ASAR Wave Mode Level 2 product is performed using ASAR Wave Mode data acquired during May 2002, which have been co-located with ECMWF WAM spectra and wind speed data. First calibration results and a comparison of wind speed and wave spectral parameters are presented and discussed. The performance of the product is as expected, with very good agreement in terms of mean wave period, but with saturation effects present in the significant wave height at high sea-states. The latter is mostly due to the well-known effect of azimuth roll-off, which increases with increasing wind sea states.

Envisat Wind and Wave Products: Monitoring, Validation and Assimilation
ENVISAT fast delivery RA-2 and ASAR wind and wave products are routinely received, monitored and validated at ECMWF. RA-2 wind speed product is of good quality. Although Ku-band significant wave height (SWH) product is slightly high, it is of high quality. The redundant side B of RA-2 produced SWH product of even better quality. The S-band wave height product is generally of good quality. The i...

Nowadays, spaceborne Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) has become a powerful tool for providing significant wave height. Traditionally, validation of SAR derived ocean wave height has been carried out against buoy measurements or model outputs, which only yield a inter-comparison, but not an ‘absolute’ validation. In this study, the triple collocation error model has been introduced in the validat...

With its ASAR wave mode, the ENVISAT mission provides a continuity of the ERS-1/2 wave mode, but with more flexible measurement capabilities and an enhanced product variety offered to the user community. Wave vignettes can be taken at 100 km spacing in flight direction either in VV or HH polarization using any of the seven ASAR standard beams. Furthermore, two beams can be used alternatively pr...
متن کاملGlobal wave model validation using ENVISAT ASAR wave mode data
Spaceborne active radar remote sensing, e.g., radar altimeter (RA) and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) have been playing an important role in the validation of numerical wave models, particularly in open ocean. Most forecast centres also use altimeter data in the wave data assimilation process. In this paper we present validation results based on the newly developed CWAVE_ENV algorithm. SAR wave...
